Measuring Mine Muck Passes

Application Conditions: 8’ x 8’ muck pass, 600 ft. deep shaft, ore of various sizes, dust, trucks, installation 22ft above a Grizzly

Level Technology Choice: For this application, we must always use a non-contact level technology, to be mounted out of the way of potential damage from trucks and falling ore. Compounding this, with a Grizzly installed, the device will need to aim between the Grizzly beams and measure the ore below. Three technologies are available; Radar, laser and Acoustic level transmitters. Only a laser has the long-range measuring capability for this application. Only a laser has the narrow beam spread capable of measuring thru a Grizzly 22 ft. away. Best choice is to use the OptioLaser S230, provided in a ruggedized cast aluminum housing for durability, capable of measuring targets up to 5,900 ft., 4-wire device with 4-20mA / HART communication, a targeting laser, either loop power or AC/DC supplies. The OptioLaser can be aimed thru narrow Grizzly beams 22 ft. away to measure rock Ore below. The OptioLaser can measure both wet and dry products, at extreme distances, thru narrow shafts, in dusty conditions.

OptioLaser S300 Liquid Lasers Sensor

Principle of Operation

The OptioLaser S300 Liquid Lasers are user configurable, allowing optimal performance of your specific application. Using an infrared, low-gain GaAs laser diode, light energy of 905 nm. travels to the surface of any liquid and is reflected back. This time-off-light (the time the laser pulse took to travel to the liquid and back) is then calculated into a distance.

The low-gain diode allows for accurate measurement of even highly reflective, clear liquids- regardless of the dielectric properties. The narrow beam divergence of 3 milliradians (equal to 3ft at 1000ft) allows for easy installation, even near walls or thru narrow passages.
